Düsseldorf is one of the first cities in Europe where the “Ampelinfo Online” service will be introduced by Audi AG starting Tuesday, January 28.

The city of Düsseldorf has developed innovative solutions in traffic management in several cooperative research projects. In one of the most modern traffic management centers in Europe, equipped with our VTmanager traffic management software, the foundations for networked driving in Düsseldorf have been established in the federally funded projects UR:BAN – “Urban Space: User-friendly Assistance Systems and Network Management” and KoMoD – “Cooperative Mobility in the Düsseldorf Digital Test Field”.

Together with our partner Traffic Technology Services (TTS), we have created methods for centrally based traffic light-vehicle communication without the need for cost-intensive extensions to the traffic light infrastructure. These innovative developments are the starting point of the launch of a “Car2X” service for traffic light phase prediction, as it is now offered by Audi for its series production vehicles.

In order to offer a service for predicting traffic light phases, the digital status data of the traffic lights must be recorded, processed into information and transmitted to the drivers. Such information, such as the length of time until the next green phase or speed recommendations, then enables the driver to pass the next traffic light smoothly.

For this service, GEVAS provides forecasts of traffic light phases for the whole Düsseldorf city area. These traffic light forecasts, which are calculated within our traffic management software VTmanager, are made available to the service provider Traffic Technology Services (TTS) and are at the same time the basis for our own green wave assistant trafficpilot in Düsseldorf.
