The wish for a sustainable,safe, clean and efficient mobility that meets the requirements of a modern society as well as the ambition for technological leadership of German companies, has brought together innovative and competent partners from science and industry in the field of “Networked and Automated Driving“. In cooperation with BiDiMoVe Hamburg (Bidirectional Multimodal Networking), they are carrying out a project that focuses on both traffic safety and the security of services and data – emphasizing the city of Hamburg’s orientation in the use of intelligent transport systems (ITS), an orientation the city has given itself by adopting a comprehensive ITS strategy.

BiDiMoVe Hamburg wants to achieve the implementation and testing of a Public Key Infrastructure for the secure IT operation of cooperating ITS components within the 30 months of the project and thus serve as a pilot for future deployment scenarios at federal and state level.

The fields of application are the optimisation of operations and secure prioritisation of certain transport users (public transport, emergency vehicles) as well as the warning of potentially dangerous intersection situations with particularly vulnerable road users (cyclists and pedestrians) at junctions. In order to enable targeted communication between the various road users, new processes for certificate and rights management must be specified and implemented.

For these scenarios, the City of Hamburg is using city buses in a selected test area to test the technology in real operation for suitability for everyday use, efficiency and acceptance.

To ensure the transferability of the V2X services created in the project, the new OCIT interfaces (Open Communication Interface for Road Traffic Control Systems) of the cooperative city infrastructure are to be used for the first time in close coordination with ODG (OCIT Developer Group) and OCA (Open Traffic Systems City Association e. V.).

GEVAS software is involved in the project especially in the field of situation-controlled LSA, i.e. a flexible multi-criteria public transport acceleration. Software for central registering and for switching time prognosis will be further developed in order to achieve an exact preference of buses depending on different influencing variables and a more exact switching time prognosis for all road users. As a result, this will lead to a reduction of acceleration and braking processes and to a decrease in wasted time.
